Environmental Impact of the Pulp and Paper Industry

        • 47% of Florida is forested
        • Forest Areas are critical to recharge and protection of Florida Aquifer
        • Regeneration/planting programs result in an annual growth of 17%
        • 60% of energy consumed by our industry is self-generated

The major recharge area for the Floridian aquifer is located in central and northwest Florida.  The land base in this area is over 75% forests.  The forest plays a key role in protecting the quantity and quality of water entering the aquifer.

 

Economic Impact of the Pulp and Paper Industry

        • Employs 41,000 workers
        • 6.5% of manufacturing workforce, 6.7% payroll
        • Capital spending of $236 million per year
        • Annual payroll of $1.2 billion
