PCA's containerboard mills, including the Valdosta mill, produce over 2.1 million tons of linerboard (the inner and outer layers of a corrugated container) and medium (the fluted center layer) for PCA's own converting facilities as well as numerous domestic and international customers.  All of PCA's containerboard mills are ISO 9002 certified.

The Valdosta facility has one linerboard machine and produces about 457M tons of 100% virgin, high quality linerboard annually. Valdosta can produce a wide range of basis weights (90# through 35#), including the same high-performance, wet-strength, and other specialties produced at PCA's Counce, TN facility as well as a number of grades that are excellent for special printing and coating applications. This wide range of capabilities makes Valdosta a truly exceptional linerboard producer. In fact, the Valdosta location has been independently judged to have the best printing quality 35 lb high-performance linerboard in the corrugated container industry.

Economic Information

The Valdosta facility is located in south Georgia, less than 5 miles from the Florida state line.  PCA also owns and operates many other facilities located in Jacksonville, Winter Haven, Miami, Orlando, Lakeland, and Miami Gardens.

Environmental Information

Packaging Corporation of America is at the forefront of the industry's recycling efforts. For us, "reduce", "reuse" and "recycle" are not just words; they are at the center of our commitment to a better environment - for our customers, our communities and for ourselves.

"...committed to a better environment"

All of our facilities actively participate in waste recycling efforts. We also operate two recycling facilities located in Jackson and Nashville, Tennessee. In addition, recycled waste paper is used to supplement fiber supply and paper production at our paper mills. During 2005, our containerboard mills consumed approximately 592,000 tons of recycled fiber, of which about 211,000 tons was generated from our own box plants, resulting in net recycled consumption of 381,000 tons, or 16% of our total fiber requirements.

PCA is committed to responsible environmental protection and practices. We continue to employ best management practices to further reduce environmental risks. We are concerned about our forests and want to protect them for the future generations. We are, therefore, committed to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI)SM program which is a comprehensive system of principles, objectives and performance measures that integrates the reforestation, managing, growing, nurturing, and harvesting of trees for useful products with the conservation of soil, air and water quality, wildlife and fish habitat, and aesthetics.

PCA recognizes that protecting the environment in the course of its business activities is of the highest priority. Virtually all of our activities are regulated by environmental laws. We have instituted a highly successful pollution prevention program to reduce industrial waste through process changes, recycling, and the replacement of hazardous raw materials. Our employees are encouraged to suggest ways to eliminate waste and emissions from our processes. All waste products and hazardous materials are accumulated, handled, and disposed of as required by applicable Federal and State regulations.
